Since 2014, the Cumberland County Improvement Authority has served as the county’s lead entity for economic development and redevelopment, investing over $588 million in construction and public improvement projects. Through more than 30 shared services agreements, the Authority has helped local governments enhance firehouses, fleet services, and waste collection—resulting in $4.7 million in taxpayer savings. In 2019, the Authority merged with the Cumberland Empowerment Zone Corporation to expand access to technical services and public financing for businesses and public agencies.

The Authority has continued to lead strategic initiatives that strengthen the local economy. During the Covid-19 crisis, it acted as a central resource hub for businesses. With an overall economic impact exceeding $1 billion, its investments have created new jobs, expanded workforce training, and driven long-term growth across Cumberland County.

Our Latest Projects in Salem County

For both private and public entities, The Authority has the ability and expertise to develop, construct, and manage all types of facilities. The Authority can assist in all phases of development – from initial design and bidding, to permitting, construction and final completion. In all aspects, projects will be compliant with regulations, budgets, and timelines. The Authority’s role and involvement varies from project to project, with the over-riding goal to maximize project funding and achieve the optimal use of expertise and available resources.

Salem County
Courthouse

The current Salem County Courthouse on Market Street in Salem is scheduled for a renovation and expansion to create a modern, efficient, and safe new facility. It will reside behind the existing courthouse, span three floors, and cover 47,000 square feet. Project includes the addition of a (3) story, 47,000 sq ft courthouse addition located at 92 market street. This addition will include new courtrooms, Judge’s Chambers, Jury deliberation rooms/assembly, lobby and new main entrance, grade level judicial parking, etc. Renovations to the existing administration and courthouse buildings will also be completed. These renovations will create workspaces that meet the minimum requirements of the new jersey courts courthouse facility standards. The building’s will also have mechanical and electrical systems’ improvements as well as energy conservation measures being implemented. Per our Shared Services Agreement with Salem County, The Authority manages construction for the project.

This project will connect residents of Cumberland and Salem Counties to high-speed internet by layering funding for middle-mile and last-mile broadband projects. The Authority has worked closely with partners in both counties to bring more reliable internet access to rural areas.
