MILLVILLE, NEW JERSEY. (October 14, 2026) –The Authority is proud to host Jenna Levner as the 2026-2027 Area 17 New Jersey AmeriCorps Watershed Ambassador. The Authority continues to serve as a host agency for individuals participating in the AmeriCorps New Jersey Watershed Ambassador Program (NJWAP), during their term of service. The NJWAP addresses diverse environmental needs of the state primarily through observing and studying local waterways. This is accomplished through a series of stream assessments, presentations, and partnership projects. During her time with the NJWAP at The Authority, Jenna will be responsible for the watershed management area (WMA) 17, consisting of the Maurice, Cohansey, and Salem River watersheds.

A graduate of Rowan University, Jenna has earned a B.S. in Biology, with an extensive background in ecology and mycology, the study of fungi. Her research centered on arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF), which form beneficial symbiotic relationships with the majority of plant species. These fungi play a vital role in ecosystem health by helping plants access essential nutrients, including nitrogen and phosphorus, making them important to agriculture, forestry, and environmental sustainability. Her research contributed to the discovery of two previously unknown fungal species, each representing a novel genus.

“I am super excited to serve the communities of the beautiful Maurice, Cohansey, and Salem watersheds as the Watershed Ambassador. It is my goal to keep the waterways in good health and to spread love for nature to the community through environmental education and stewardship,” said Jenna Levner, AmeriCorps NJ Watershed Ambassador.

“I am looking forward to seeing Jenna grow through her upcoming projects, trainings, presentations, and cleanups,” explained Samantha DeFrancisco, Cumberland County Recycling and Clean Communities Coordinator. “With her enthusiasm, background in ecology, and passion for environmental stewardship, Jenna is sure to make a difference in WMA 17.”

“The Authority is proud to host Jenna Levner throughout the 2026-2027 NJWAP term of service. This program is another example of The Authority promoting environmental awareness between the Cumberland and Salem Counties,” said Dale Jones, President.
