What's New at The Authority?


Landfill Update

The Authority’s summer projects are progressing according to plan. Fleet Office renovations are ongoing with an expected completion of August 2026.  Interior Scale House renovations are underway with Phase 1 to be complete at the end of August and Phase 2 to begin shortly thereafter. Landfill well drilling bids are due August 12 and will be awarded at The Authority’s August Board Meeting. Drop-Off Area renovations are complete and The Authority is awaiting minor modification approval from the NJDEP for the official opening of the area. The Authority’s Cell 10 expansion remains in the permitting phase. The expansion plans and timeline will be presented to the Cumberland County SWAC on August 11. 


Upper Deerfield Board of Education

The Seabrook School Pre-K Expansion project is on the home stretch to completion. Interior finishes continue to progress as HVAC equipment is fired up, casework, interior doors, and flooring are installed. Contractors are preparing for TCO inspection to occur on Tuesday, August 4. Furniture is scheduled to be delivered and installed the week of August 10, with the teachers planning to move into their classrooms the same week.


CCTEC

The new addition for the Cumberland County Technical Education Center is progressing according to schedule. The brick veneer is complete, while windows have been delivered and will be installed soon. The roof is being completed, with ongoing work to the metal stud partitions, electrical infrastructure, ductwork, and sprinkler work. The project is on schedule for an April 2027 completion, in time for the new school year. 


Bridgeton Fire Station

The new facility for the Bridgeton Fire Department is moving toward completion. Finish flooring is being installed, while doors are being hung. Site work is ongoing, with new sidewalks and exterior stair. Concrete aprons in front of the apparatus bay are being installed and the apparatus bay addition is just about finished. With the ground floor area being the last area to be finished, expected project completion is scheduled for September 2026. 


Bridgeton Board of Education

The Bridgeton Board of Education projects are underway for the expansion of three K-8 schools and lighting and fire alarm upgrades at Bridgeton High School. Construction at Cherry Street has begun following the award of the project to Ogren. The contractor is currently mobilizing the site by installing the construction trailer and establishing a secure perimeter with temporary fencing and gated access. The Indian Avenue project was awarded to Ogren during the week of July 13, 2026. The contract is currently undergoing the final review and signature process. Site mobilization is anticipated to begin in early August. The West Avenue School project has been advertised for bid, with bids due August 4, 2026.


Cumberland Regional High School

The Cumberland Regional High School District awarded the Sitework portion of the Stadium Project to The Landtek Group, LLC at its July Board meeting. The project is being managed through multiple contracts coordinated by The Authority's Construction Management team, a strategy that increases competitive bidding, provides greater flexibility, and helps reduce overall project costs. Additional contracts for the bleachers, press box, synthetic turf, field house/concession building, and restroom building will be bid separately. Construction is expected to begin in late October 2026 and be completed by October 2027.


Linden Street Homes

Work on the Linden Street Homes project has concluded. All six homes are complete and ready for move in!


Fenwick Plaza Update

The  renovations  of  Fenwick  Plaza  in Salem are complete. Final inspections are scheduled for the first week of August. This is the next step in the effort to return Fenwick Plaza to a hub of downtown activity.  


Land Bank Property Transfer

The  City  of  Salem recently passed  an  ordinance  to transfer property to the Land Bank, which is operated by The Authority. The property list includes 65 lots in the area around Linden Street,  many of which are vacant lots, long-abandoned residential units,  rear lots, and side lots. Formal transfer of title is anticipated to occur in the coming weeks. As the Land Bank entity, The Authority is actively pursuing strategies to revitalize the neighborhood and continues to meet with developers.   This process is in collaboration with the City, the Center for Community Progress, and the Community Advisory Board. The Authority would like to congratulate Jonathan Feinman and Lee Schofield on being named co-chairs of the Community Advisory Board. 


Salem County Social Services

The Salem County Social Services project is complete. Final inspection is in hand and the staff have begun occupying the newly renovated space. 


Cape May Police Department

The    Cape    May   Police Department building continues to make significant progress as construction has advanced toward building enclosure. Roof trusses were successfully installed and roof sheathing followed, establishing the building's roof structure. Exterior brick veneer progressed on multiple elevations, while waterproofing efforts continued around the building envelope in preparation for enclosure. Interior framing and building systems—including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection—continued to advance throughout the facility, positioning the project for the next phase of construction once the building is weather-tight. Steel stair installation also began, marking another important milestone as the project remains on schedule.


Cape May Justice Complex

Work continues at the new Cape May County Justice Complex. Over the past month, fixed windows were installed, the site sign was completed, and major progress was made on mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire suppression systems. Ductwork rough-in is complete, with VAV installation and duct insulation underway. Plumbing rough-in is complete, and pipe insulation is in progress. Atlantic City Electric completed the utility connection, and Leeway Electric installed the main distribution panels and feeder cables. Carpenters completed rough framing and are continuing with insulation, GWB installation, and exterior metal siding preparation. The General Contractor, Ernest Bock & Sons, continues coordinating with subcontractors to maintain the scheduled substantial completion date of July 7, 2027 with final completion anticipated in August 2027.


Monarch Waystation Certification

The Authority has received its official Certificate of Recognition from the Monarch Watch in recognition of its new Monarch Waystation #57732, located at The Authority’s Solid Waste Complex. Monarch Waystations provide critical resources for monarchs throughout their annual cycle of reproduction and migration and support other pollinators and wildlife.  


NJ AmeriCorps Watershed Ambassador Program Graduation

Congratulations to our AmeriCorps NJ Watershed Ambassador, Mazie Mulford, for successfully completing 1700 hours of service and graduating from the AmeriCorps NJ Watershed Ambassadors Program!
