Mazie Mulford Named 2025-2026 New Jersey AmeriCorps Watershed Ambassador

MILLVILLE, NEW JERSEY. (October 1, 2025) –The Authority is proud to host Mazie Mulford as the 2025-2026 Area 17 New Jersey AmeriCorps Watershed Ambassador. The Authority continues to serve as a host agency for individuals participating in the AmeriCorps New Jersey Watershed Ambassador Program (NJWAP), during their term of service. The NJWAP addresses diverse environmental needs of the state primarily through observing and studying local waterways. This is accomplished through a series of stream assessments, presentations, and partnership projects. During her time with the NJWAP at The Authority, Mazie will be responsible for the watershed management area (WMA) 17, consisting of the Maurice, Cohansey, and Salem River watersheds.

A Salem County resident, Mazie Mulford is a 2025 graduate of Rowan University with a B.S. in Environmental Science and a B.A. in Environmental and Sustainability Studies. She has gained valuable experience as a Rowan student, studying salt marsh restoration and management. Mulford also has lab experience studying zooplankton biodiversity in reservoirs around Salem County. She is dedicated to enhancing watershed stewardship by educating the community and fostering direct involvement, while also monitoring stream health through visual biological assessments.

" I am so excited to be in my home watershed! I truly love Salem and Cumberland counties and can't wait to serve the people and environment in WMA 17,” said Mazie Mulford, AmeriCorps NJ Watershed Ambassador. “My goal is to help monitor our local streams and waterways and foster environmental stewardship through educational presentations and community events.”

“Mazie has hit the ground running, and I am looking forward to seeing her grow through her upcoming projects, trainings, presentations, and cleanups,” explained Samantha DeFrancisco, Cumberland County Recycling and Clean Communities Coordinator. “With her passion for the environment, and her education in Environmental Science and Environmental and Sustainability Studies, Mazie is sure to make a difference in her home watershed.”

“The Authority is proud to host Mazie Mulford throughout her 2025-2026 NJWAP term of service,” said Shelly Schneider, President. “The NJWAP is a partnership that allows The Authority to promote environmental stewardship between the Cumberland and Salem Counties.”
