What's New at The Authority?

Landfill Administrative Building

Construction continues for the expansion of The Authority’s existing Administration Building at the Solid Waste Complex. This project includes office renovations and upgrades to the locker rooms and lunchroom. The Landfill Administration Building construction is progressing, and is on schedule to open at the end of June. HVAC, plumbing, and electric is progressing as scheduled. The brick exterior has started, and is expected to be complete within the next week. Windows, roofing, EIFS (stucco), and drywall are scheduled to be installed within the next few weeks.

Bridgeton BOE: Broad Street School HVAC Project

Spring Break (April 18--April 25) at Bridgeton's Broad Street School will mark a major milestone in the completion of this three-year project. Work progresses with the demolition and new construction of the cafeteria HVAC, lighting, ceilings and life safety devices, and clearing the way for continued expansion of the ductwork project. With the school year being extended four days, due to inclement weather, The Authority, contractor, and school district have been meeting bi-weekly to come up with a plan to make up those days. Exciting progress continues as the team prepares for the final work this summer.

NJ State Police Barracks

Spring has arrived, and with it, major progress has been made on the Commercial Township Police Barracks project. Construction is in full swing with masonry walls, bearing walls, sheathing, trusses, and generator and transformer pads all being completed. As the building begins to take shape, the focus now shifts to exterior sheathing, roof sheathing, roofing and interior systems—ductwork, electrical, and plumbing rough ins being underway and moving swiftly.

Bridgeton Fire Station

Work continues at the new Bridgeton Fire Station. Framing on the second floor is mostly complete, as ductwork, plumbing and electrical roughing in continues. First floor framing is ongoing, as the new elevator shaft openings have been cut through the existing concrete floors. Protection has been installed for demolition work to continue on the pyro bar wall units that makeup the historic main stair tower walls. These wall units will be removed and replaced with cold-formed metal framing (metal studs). The under slab piping for the sanitary system on the ground floor has been inspected, and is ready to be infilled with concrete. Sitework continues on the generator pad and transformer. The electrical conduits are nearing completion, and the reinforcing mat is waiting to be installed. Completion is planned for Spring 2026, and the firefighters are looking forward to moving into their future home.

Fenwick Plaza

The Authority will be partnering with Ranch Hope, Inc. to fully renovate Fenwick Plaza. The projected tenants include a grocery/fresh market food store, a food pharmacy, offices for the NJ Department of Labor unemployment services, and Salem County’s One Stop Career Center for workforce training and employment assistance. There will be additional office space available for a variety of enterprises, including non-profits such as Ranch Hope, Inc. providing youth services and programs for children and families in a safe environment. When completed, the renovated and reinvigorated Fenwick Plaza will serve as a catalyst for economic development and provide businesses, government, and social services an anchor for the residents of the City of Salem and the region. The Authority is excited by the opportunity to be a part of Salem’s revitalization story.

Choose NJ Meetup

On March 12, over 100 leaders from business, government, and non-profits from South Jersey and throughout the state gathered at Terra Nonno Winery for a dynamic and informative economic development symposium focused on our region’s thriving manufacturing and logistics industries as well as the role tourism can play as a catalyst for economic growth. Hosted by Choose New Jersey, The Authority, Salem County and the Cumberland Salem Cape May Workforce Development Board and Business Services, participants enjoyed informative presentations by the NJEDA Manufacturing Incentives & Tax Credits, The Authority, Salem County Economic Development and Tourism and a robust panel discussion featuring representatives from SMS Rail Service, Inc., Mannington Mills, Innovation Foods, and Rovignati North America, L.L.C. Throughout the presentations and the panel discussions, it was clear that in addition to our strategic location, our region has many assets that businesses find attractive when looking to locate or expand. Those who attended this wonderful event in the middle of a vineyard needed no convincing that tourism is a wonderful way to promote our region as a great place to live and work.
