What's New at The Authority
Landfill Administrative Building and Landfill Gas Header Update
Construction for the expansion of The Authority’s existing Administration Building at the Solid Waste Complex is approximately 75 percent complete. Site work is progressing, including the installation of the sidewalk. Interior finishings have begun, including painting, cabinet and furniture installation, and flooring. The project is on schedule, and the team is expected to move into the Landfill Administrative Building in mid-July. The Authority’s Landfill Gas Header Project has been awarded to Atlantic Lining Company (ALCO). The project includes continuing the landfill gas header around landfill Cells 7, 8, and 9 to complete the loop around the entire landfill. This project will help The Authority maximize landfill gas collection. ALCO is on-site and has begun digging the trenches to lay pipe, beginning in Cell7. The project is expected to be complete by late June.
Bridgeton BOE: Broad Street School HVAC Project
The Broad Street School HVAC Project is currently 80 percent complete, and is on track to be substantially complete by end of August 2025. Thermal Piping and their subcontractors are working nights until school is out in June. There is a lot of progress being made, setting the crew up for a very productive summer. The chiller has been started up and the upper floor of the school has fully conditioned air for the first time. All existing ceilings and equipment have been removed from all the corridors and new ductwork is being run in the corridors at night. This project is a complicated one, as Broad Street School is a very old building that has had numerous additions and undocumented work completed over the past 100 years. The Authority coordinates construction obstacles on a daily basis with the contractor, professionals, and district staff to keep the project progressing on schedule, all while maintaining a tight budget.
Upper Deerfield BOE: Seabrook School Addition
The Authority is pleased to announce that it will be awarding the Upper Deerfield Pre-K Expansion Project to Ogren Construction at the May 28 Board Meeting. With an extremely tight budget, The Authority worked with its professionals to fine tune the plans and specs to achieve bids that were within budget. On May 20, The Authority successfully received four bids for the 19,500 square-foot new addition project, with Ogren Construction coming in as low bid at $7,354,000/$375 square-foot. Additional bids were received by TN Ward, Bock, and Dandrea. This was one of The Authority’s closest building construction bids with .006% between the two lowest bids. The notice to proceed is expected to be given on June 2, with construction to begin immediately after. Ground breaking is expected to start inJune2025. The project is slated for 365 calendar days and is projected to be complete in June of 2026
Cape May County Justice Complex
The Authority continues to improve the tomorrow of our neighboring counties. Bids have been received for the Cape May County Justice Complex Project. Ernest Bock and Sons were awarded the bid. Notice to proceed has been issued to Ernest Bock and Sons. The general contractor is in the process of mobilizing to the site, as they await final approval of the required CAFRA permits.
Bridgeton Fire Station
The new Bridgeton Fire Station is progressing nicely. The pit and shaft for the new elevator is complete to the ground floor. The water and fire service lines are being installed, while interior framing and roughing in continues. The historic replica windows are scheduled to be delivered in the next few weeks. The Geo Storage System, a large underground water storage and filtration system, will filter all water coming from the site before it enters the storm drainage system. It will also provide clean water heading to the mighty Cohansey River. The project is on schedule for completion in Summer of 2026.
NJ State Police Barracks
The new NJ State Police Barracks Project in Commercial Township is approximately 50 percent complete. Roof membrane installation is complete, which allows interior work to begin. All interior wall framing is complete, and rough plumbing and electrical work is in progress. All main HVAC ductwork is installed, while insulation install in the roof trusses is progress. The RTU’s have been installed as well. ACE was on-site this month to start up electrical service for the building. Exterior building split face block, brick, and cast stone are also complete. Metal siding and metal roof for the parking lot canopy have been ordered. The Authority meets weekly with NJSP staff to coordinate owner needs and any items that need coordination. The project is progressing a little ahead of schedule, and completion is slated for December of 2025.
CCTEC Addition
Design is underway for the new addition to the CCTEC campus. The new addition will be approximately 16,800 square-feet and house two dual-use classrooms, a construction lab, two manufacturing labs, a photonics stem lab, and welding lab, along with support spaces, such as offices, a conference room, and utility spaces. This exciting addition will provide space for training the future community contributors in much needed specialized areas.
