What's New at The Authority?

Landfill Administrative Building

Construction continues for the expansion of The Authority’s existing Administration Building at the Solid Waste Complex. This project includes office renovations and upgrades to the locker rooms and lunchroom. The contractors are currently working on the framing of the building. HVAC installation and electrical work has begun. The project is on schedule and is projected to be complete in June 2025.

Bridgeton BOE: Broad Street School HVAC Project

Night work continues at Broad Street School. Thermal Piping and their subcontractors are working on supporting existing conduits and electrical cables, as well as installing new ductwork in the first and second floor corridors. This work is being carried out to stay ahead of schedule, as summer is just around the corner. The Authority is also collaborating with the Bridgeton BOE to complete the cafeteria and kitchen renovation work over Spring Break. While there are many moving parts to ensure everything fits within the available schedule, the entire team is in constant communication and coordination, exploring options to complete the work efficiently, all while minimizing disruption to students and staff.

NJ State Police Barracks

After a challenging February, March has arrived, and with the change in weather, the contractors are now able to proceed with pouring the building pad— a significant milestone for the Commercial Township State Police Barracks project. ACE utility poles, communications conduits, stonework, moisture barriers, and concrete reinforcement have all been completed. The next steps of the project include beginning the masonry walls, building framing, and roof trusses.

Bridgeton Fire Station

Construction continues at the Bridgeton Fire Station. Site work is progressing, as the work for the electric service and generator pad underslab piping are ongoing. Interior demolition in mostly complete. Metal stud framing, ductwork, electrical, and plumbing work are progressing on the second floor. It is just the beginning of a long journey to the completion of the new Bridgeton Fire Station, scheduled for completion in the spring of 2026.

Lead Abatement Program

In partnership with the Holly City Development Corporation (HCDC) and the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (DCA), The Authority is coordinating efforts to reduce lead paint exposure and contamination in Millville’s housing stock. Homes built before 1978, which make up nearly 40% of local housing, are at the highest risk for lead paint exposure. Lead paint exposure is a serious health concern, particularly for children, and can cause developmental issues such as learning disabilities and behavioral problems. Alarmingly, statewide data shows that one in four children in New Jersey have elevated blood lead levels. Our goal is to remediate up to 200 homes by 2027, substantially reducing the risk of lead exposure and ensuring the safety and well-being of our community’s children. If you or anyone you know owns a home built before 1978 and would like a risk-free lead assessment, please contact the Holly City Development Corporation at (856) 776–7979. Together, we can create a safer environment for all.

Robert Wood Johnson Grant

The Authority has been notified of a successful grant application to the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation in the amount of $500,000. The purpose of this grant is to establish a regional landbank operation in Cumberland, Salem, and Cape May Counties. This will be only the second landbank established in the state since enabling legislation was passed in 2019, and the first one of a regional nature. The Authority proposed an operating model that can be replicated across the state. The initial focus will be in Salem City, where the Authority has existing relationships and several development projects underway. A second component of the grant is a Nonprofit Collaborators fund which will help nonprofit organizations increase their capacity to successfully develop real estate projects and increase their sustainability.

Linden Street Affordable Housing: Funding Approval

The Linden Street Affordable Housing Project involves the new construction of six (6) single-family units on various lots that have been strategically chosen for development. Each unit will offer 2,100 square feet of living space, with a total project area of 12,600 square feet. These homes are designed to support both low and moderate-income families, with three units allocated to each respective income bracket. “On behalf of the City of Salem, not only do I support their efforts, I commend them for seeking to provide excellent use for these vacant lots while creating wealth-building opportunities for residents of the City,” Mayor Jody Veler.  The Authority is proud to work with The City of Salem and Restrepo and Associates to improve the tomorrow of South Jersey.
