What's New at The Authority
Landfill Administrative Building and Drop-Off Area Update
Construction for the expansion of The Authority’s existing Administration Building at the Solid Waste Complex is nearing completion. Staff have moved into the newly-renovated building, while outside landscaping and finishing touches are being completed. The Authority’s Drop-Off Area is under construction. The Authority is relocating the temporary dump trailer area off the landfill to a permanent structure with reinforced concrete under cover; this will make for a more efficient and safe operation. The drop-off area will be fully paved and include a 6-foot drop. The floor is complete and the walls are being poured. This project is expected to be complete by the end of October.
Broadband Middle Mile and Last Mile Proceeding
Cumberland County has formally approved the transfer of the approved Middle Mile project to Salem County. Salem County will be working with the City of Vineland to implement first, middle, and last mile infrastructure throughout Salem and Cumberland Counties. The $24 million NTIA Middle Mile Grant will be combined with NJBIDE, NJBEAD and USDA Reconnect Grants to bring this much needed infrastructure project to fruition. In total, more than $55 million in grant funds have been approved.
Solar Project
The Authority is working with CEP to implement a solar array on the Lebanon Road Redevelopment Site. The 25 MW solar array will provide both remote net metering and utility scale generation. The initial 5 MW phase should be completed within the next 12 months, and the utility scale generation will follow shortly thereafter. The infrastructure improvements required for this project should enhance the surrounding infrastructure as well.
Fenwick Plaza
The renovated Fenwick Plaza will include the return of the Salem County One Stop to downtown Salem. Tenants will include the New Jersey Department of Labor—Employment Services, Salem County/Salem County Vo-Tech Schools, and the Workforce Development Board. Additional tenants focused on youth services include Ranch Hope and The Huddle. The Authority is working with its co-developers to bring a café and grocery store to the first floor and identifying opportunities to revitalize the courtyard for community events. Operations will begin in the one-story building on September 15 as construction continues in the three-story building.
Bridgeton Fire Station
The new Bridgeton Fire Station is progressing according to plan. Historic replica windows are being installed and masonry cleaning of the façade is underway. The Authority continues to work closely with the City Administration and Fire Chief. The project is on schedule for completion in Summer of 2026.
NJ State Police Barracks
The Port Norris Barracks interior work is approaching the final stages with painting complete, ceramic tile complete, ceiling grid, ceiling tile and light fixtures installed. The new gym area flooring is complete, as well as the LVT in the locker rooms. Next up, is finishing flooring throughout the office and detectives areas. Plumbing fixtures and partitions will be complete this month. The State Police are working on getting the new lockers, gun lockers and holding cells onsite in September or early October. The site contractor will be remobilizing to complete the site work, paving, and fence work. Currently, the project is about three weeks ahead of schedule and is progressing very well.
